EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

JOINT APPOINTMENT - Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology

The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology invites applications for a faculty member for a state funded, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level as part of the Joint Initiatives in Translational Cardiovascular Research. Our goal for the joint recruitment from the two Departments is to promote and facilitate translational studies in partnership with clinician scientists. The Davis campus is the third largest in the University of California system and ranks among the nation's top 20 universities in research funding. The School of Medicine is undergoing major expansion and faculty will have research space on the Davis Campus in the newly open Genome and Biomedical Science Facilities as well as access to state-of-the-art facilities including the newly NIH-funded UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree. It is expected that the successful candidate will complement and extend the existing strengths between the two Departments. The two Departments have related research programs in signaling in heart failure, membrane biology and vascular biology. The most important factors for consideration are an outstanding record of achievement in research demonstrated by the potential to build a vigorous, extramurally-funded research program and demonstrated ability to foster collaborative research. In addition, we are particularly interested in individuals using innovative approaches to understand the expression, function, signaling pathways, interactions and structure-function relationship of proteins in cardiovascular diseases. Applicants should send a CV, up to 3 key reprints, synopsis of research plans, and a summary of teaching experience to tebradley@ucdavis.edu and arrange for 3 to 5 letters of reference to be sent to Terri Bradley at:

Division Manager
Ambulatory Care Center
4860 Y Street Suite 2820
Scramento, CA 956817

For full consideration, applications must be received by May 1, 2007. However the position will remain open until filled through July 1, 2007. The University of California is strongly committed to diversity in attracting faculty to fill these positions and is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR - Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology

The Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology, at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, is recruiting a mid-career faculty member for a state funded, tenure-track position at the Associate/Full Professor level as part of the Membrane Biology Initiative. The Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology has recently hired 7 junior faculty, two of whom were joint hires with the newly formed Shriner's Hospital Institute for Pediatric Regenerative Medicine. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and have demonstrated academic leadership as evidenced from superior investigative accomplishment, sustained extramural funding, educational excellence, and effective mentoring and service. The individual selected for the position is expected to maintain a high quality research program and to participate in the teaching of medical and graduate students. The most important criteria in the consideration of applicants are: (1) a record of research excellence, creativity and innovation; (2) a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as an educator and (3) a history of fostering collaborative research. The research interests of current departmental faculty are focused in the areas of cardiovascular physiology and neuroscience, with an emphasis on membrane phenomena. It is expected that the successful candidate will complement and extend the existing strengths of the Department and integrate with one or more of the School's strategic focus areas (Cardiovascular, Neuroscience, Infectious Disease, and Cancer). Individuals that posses the potential to facilitate and extend translational studies in partnership with clinical scientists will receive special consideration. Letters of interest, curriculum vitae, up to three representative reprints, synopsis ofresearch plans (past, present and future goals), summary of teaching experience/philosophy, and the names/addresses of five references should be forwarded to:

Martha E. O'Donnell, Ph.D., Chair, Search Committee,
c/o Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology
4136 Tupper Hall, East Health Sciences Drive
University of California, Davis, CA  95616.

The position will be "Open Until Filled"; for full consideration, applications should be received by November 30, 2007. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

POST DOCTORATE - Zheng Lab - Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available immediately at UC Davis School of Medicine Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology to study molecular mechanisms of ion channel activation, regulation, assembly, as well as roles of ion channel activities in cellular signal transduction. Using novel fluorescence approaches (e.g., see Neuron (2000) 28:369-374; Neuron (2002) 36:891-896; Neuron (2004) 42:411-421; Nature Structural and Molecular Biology (2006) 13:1115-1119) in combination with electrophysiology and molecular biology, the post-doctoral fellow will work on related projects to better understand ion channel structures and structural changes during gating, channel modulation, and the interactions between ion channel and membrane/soluble proteins and factors.Recent PhDs and graduate students close to graduation in all disciplines are welcome to apply. Experience with ion channels, electrophysiology, especially patch-clamping, as well as fluorescence techniques is preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience based on NIH guidelines; competitive benefits package is provided according to UC standards. For application, please send CV and names of references to Dr. Jie Zheng (jzheng@ucdavis.edu).
